The other morning as I was drying dishes (because don’t you get all your best ideas when doing menial housework?), I realized something.
And it wasn’t that I should have dried the dishes the night before so I wasn’t stuck doing it every morning (because that would be planning ahead, and if I’m good at anything it’s procrastinating).
You know how there’s literally a million “What’s your personal style?” quizzes out there? They always have those strange answers like “eclectic classic” and “rustic vintage.” But what do those ACTUALLY mean?? When you have a blank slate of a room in front of you and you have to figure out exactly what “worldly eclectic classic” is, where do you start?
For the most part, I usually get tagged with “rustic farmhouse vintage” or something along those lines…which doesn’t really help when I need things to fulfill that style. So here it is: I think that I may have finally narrowed down my basic items for my decorating style.
I realized this as I dried my 3 favorite things: an old tarnished silver platter, a family heirloom ironstone jug, and a glass cake stand.
There ya go. They all fit into my “tagged styles” and they’re all something that I use all the time.
They may seem strange, but they’re a little vintage, a little eclectic, and a little “farmhouse.” These three pieces get used TO DEATH in our house. Seriously. And while I’m someone who used to spend hours polishing silver, I’ve started to really love the tarnished look; it really makes it a bit more rustic.
I mean, how could you NOT love this look?
Glass cake stands are so timeless and can hold a variety of things: cakes (duh), decorations, another cake stand, etc. We have one holding a plant (protects the furniture from overwatering) and another that tends to float around the house.
This is actually a fairly common pairing that I love…
There’s just something about that ironstone and some tarnished silver that I absolutely obsess over.
Even the ironstone by itself is gorgeous. It’s all so timeless…and vintage…and eclectic…and (I could go on but I’ll stop now for your sake).
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever been tagged with on those style quizzes?
