11 years ago, I was getting ready for 7th grade when my mom told me that a plane had hit the Twin Towers.
I remember seeing footage of the firefighters and paramedics helping all those injured people, and thinking, “I want to do THAT.”
11 years later, I woke up at the ambulance base remembering all those amazingly brave and selfless people who sacrificed themselves for people they didn’t even know, and I understand.
To the most incredible 343 men and women who lost their lives in the name of public safety on that day, we thank you for putting your lives on the line.
Rest in peace.
