In my family, summer always means presents. In 3 months, we have 6 birthdays plus Father’s Day…so we get a lot of use out of the wrapping paper. I have always liked wrapping presents, but much like my Dad, I tend to wait until the last minute and then stuff something in a bag and throw some tissue paper in it.
Not this year.
Instead, I found some pretty flowers and ribbon at Walmart on clearance, and went to town with them.
Welcome to my workspace. The coffee was a MUST. I am a HUUUUUUGE fan of the simple brown wrapping paper…it’s not only durable for cross country mailings, but it’s simple enough that you can decorate it just about any way you want to.
First off, my sisters present…a travel mug from the cafe we went to every Sunday. They were just voted best coffee shop in New Hampshire, btw. WOOT WOOT! (The capitals are a little overkill. But I love their coffee.) And their kiwi iced tea. And their breakfast burritos. And their cinnamon rolls.
The nice young gentleman who sold me the cup tossed in a bumper sticker FO FREE and a box for the mug. They’re so nice. Told ya I loved them.
So I stuffed that baby up with some neon tissue paper (clearly the ONLY kind to use), and then wrapped it up in a nice brown paper package tied up with stringggggggggggg THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry. Not enough sleep, too much coffee.
Dunzo. I used some pretty purple ribbon on Becca’s present, and then I figured maybe my Dad wasn’t manly enough to handle purple ribbon as well…so I went with the hemp string route. Another big favorite of mine.
Next, I plucked the flowers right off the stems to stick them on the boxes. However, since the bachelor buttons had a pointy tip on them, I decided to wrap them in hemp as well to make a little flat nest. Enter the super glue.
Now, I should note that I am not allowed to use super glue unattended because I have a habit of accidentally gluing my fingers together. Don’t laugh, it’s happened. Three times. Part of my stocking stuffers this year were a few tubes of glue and rubber gloves. Somehow the gloves grew legs and walked away, so I’m back to square one. Now I’m just careful, but I still find myself peeling my fingernails away from my skin occasionally. Oops.
So for the flowers, I just made little loops, and drenched them with super glue so that they would hold their shape. After letting them sit for a few minutes, they were good to go.
To attach them, I just used mounds of hot glue and held them in place until they were set.
Pretty presents! Oh, and for the sticker? I made a little envelope out of tissue paper and stuck another flower on it.
Easy little updates like this make your presents go from “Ooooh” to “VA VA VOOOOOM!”
(Sorry. Did I mention the coffee?)
