When we moved into the apartment, we had this great window in our bedroom…except that since we’re on the ground level, the window looks out on the parking lot. And while I’m a very giving person, I don’t really feel the need to flash my neighbors day in and day out. So we bought some blinds at Home Depot. We had measurements, but didn’t pay attention to the fact that the size we picked out at the time was a little bit small.
So we’ve lived with them, with about an inch on either side. I’m not a fan, since I always felt like there was a certain angle that people could see straight into our room at night. Before we moved in, I bought some curtains on clearance from the Christmas Tree Shop. I never took them out of the wrapping, so I never realized how sheer they were until after I pulled them out and hung them up. I feel like this story is going in circles…
I also only bought one package of curtains, so one temporarily hung in the living room and one in the bedroom until we got new ones. After which, they got stored in the closet where I had big ideas for them. I knew that I wanted to eventually make curtains for our room with them, but had no real opportunity/time to. So this summer, during one of our garage sale pickings, when I came across a little sewing machine, I knew it was the key.
SO ANYWAYS, the other night I had a ridiculous amount of time on my hands, so I decided that there was no better time to make some curtains. So, I took those babies, hung them up, measured them, and cut them. Raggedly, because I couldn’t find my good scissors. Typical; I have a feeling that if my head wasn’t screwed on, I would lose it. Alright, where was I? Oh yeah, I cut the curtains. After I pinned the hem, I pulled my sewing machine out and started sewing.
CAN ANYONE GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!?
Yep, the darn thing didn’t work. Did I mention that this is what happens all the time? For another example, see this story.
Okay, so I yelled and cursed at the machine, then ripped all the useless stitches out and did it all by hand. Technology abhors me. So, clearly I got the curtains done and up, because why else would we be talking about them? I mean, I ramble, but come on people, I don’t ramble THAT MUCH.
Wait where was I? Oh yeah. Curtains.
Anyways, I love them oh so much. Not to mention, they keep quite a bit of the cold and breeze from drowning our room in icicles. They make the Fireman complain less :). They give that little bit of privacy that I was looking for, AND they’re another step towards making this not-ideal apartment home. (Sorry about the quality of the pictures, it was late in the afternoon and we have terrible lighting in there!)
