I’ve been seriously MIA lately with everything that’s been going on…but I did manage to have a life for a little while, I promise. Last week, we were expecting a frost so I dragged my partner and the ambulance down to the lake to strip as many tomatoes out of Gramp’s garden. I love the man to death, but SERIOUSLY, stop planting 2398476 plants and then forget about them. We lit the garden up with our scene lights and grabbed as much as we could…2 large bowls full. The next day I went back to see if I could salvage any more…and came home with another bowl full. This is what I ended up with…after the Fireman and I demolished at least 30+ chery tomatoes. They came at perfect time…one of the Fireman’s friends came over for dinner and we were able to make a homemade marinara sauce. After we trashed the kitchen, I decided that next time, I’m using canned tomatoes…just like the recipe said. Yep, I didn’t read the recipe until I started cooking. I’m that girl.
I also discovered a sweet little farmstand down the road from our house. I’m talking large 50 cent peppers…tomoatoes…onions…flowers.
Did I mention flowers? These gorgeous zinnias were at the farmstand…rows and rows of them. I picked the lilies at the lake and grabbed the rest when I picked up an insanely beautiful red pepper. I figured I could use the “someone’s coming over for dinner and we don’t want to look like heathens” excuse to satisfy my flower craving. The best part is that they didn’t cost $6 and come from the grocery store!
I love simple flowers in a mason jar. Everytime I look at them I smile. I’m quite bummed that we’ll lose the gorgeous blooms soon witht he cold…then I’ll have to sacrifice my pride and buy flowers at the store. Until then, I’m happy with these!
