Wednesday morning as I was working on a project (typical these days…), my steel toed boot came home and announced that he was going to kidnap me for the day. Best day ever? I think so. We headed to Cornish, Maine to go antiquing…some seriously AMAZING stuff there. Some previous buys from the shops there:
I love just walking through the shops…so much of the stuff that they have is obesely overpriced (if there is such a thing). I’m talking $6000 for a cabinet. Ok, the cabinet is TO DIE FOR, but still. I have more fun walking around and looking at the things and getting ideas for some DIY projects. I snapped some pictures (with a Blackberry, hence the not so great images) in Cornish Trading Company. They’ve got an old converted 3 story house with a top floor that makes me want to cry a little bit every time I walk into it. I’ll let the pictures say the rest.
I am OBSESSED with the giant stripes on the walls and the big yellow blocks on the ground. It is fantastic and makes me want to paint every single room in my future house like this.
Those red buckets hanging up there are old fire buckets for bucket brigades; they’ve got curved bottoms so that they could hold more water. They were FANTASTIC. The Fireman was so excited when he saw them. I didn’t manage to get a picture, but that blue armoire to the left was so beautiful, all I wanted to do was smuggle it home somehow…unfortunately I didn’t have the $600 to make it mine.
And I’ve also added this dining set to my birthday and Christmas lists for the next 30 years. It is in perfect condition from the 60’s; yellow vinyl and white metal. It’s like the yin to my yang. I love it, I want it, I must have it. Some time. Maybe when I hit the jackpot.
Sadly (actually it was probably for the best), we came home with nothing but a million and a half ideas. That could also be a bad thing…hmm. Lots of projects in the works to hit the blog soon!
